The second week of vbs camp in Romania we worked with special needs orphanage which was full of excitement and energy! The week looked a little different as instead of the kids coming to the team house, we were traveling to them. In the morning we would go to the boys orphanage and run the camp in their school play area. The first day I was able to reconnect with so many of the same kids from last year including one boy, Alex, who I'd spent most of my time with. Last year he had a broken leg and wasn't able to run around with the other kids so I sat with him and played tic tac toe and did magic tricks all day! We truly were able to bond last yer and this year he greeted me with the biggest hug and smile! It was so fun to continue to spend time with Alex, see him run around with healed leg and grow our friendship. The boys from the special needs orphanage are just full of love and want to be friends/hang out with everyone so being able to grow friendships over the few days we were with them was so special. During the afternoon we went to the girls orphanage which was also a great, loving experience. Receiving running hugs from a few girls I've never met before was so sweet! The vbs days consisted of worship, skit, crafts, games and free time. My personal favorites were worship and free time. It was so cool to see how worshiping God was not limited by language and both Americans and Romanians could sing to Jesus as one group! Free time was also exciting because you were able to spend time doing the kids favorite things like futbal, frisbee or dancing! Playing futbal is very common in Romania so most of the kids are pretty skilled and very passionate about it! One of my favorite moments from the week is a dance party we had on the last day with a few of the girls. They knew many American songs and we would sing at the top of our lungs and dance along. It was very special to see how something I did at home with my friends was something I could connect with the kids in Romania with! Week 2 was only three days but I felt the Lord moving and working within the vbs camps and through our team. I'm so so thankful to be able to return and reconnect with many of the same kids from last year and continue to pour love into them. Attached are some photos with Alex, the dance party and a few of the other kids that I was able to connect with!
