My experience with these kids has been amazing. When they first showed up, I was shocked by how energetic and excited they were to be there. I thought I would have to push them to participate at first, but as soon as they showed up, they were saying hi, and they were already all over the place playing soccer, volleyball, or playing with the frisbee. During the rest of the week, I got to see how they interacted with each other. They all just seemed like one big family. Even the more reserved kids were talking and playing around with each other. I was also surprised by how little the language barrier turned out to be an issue. A lot of the kids know a decent amount of English, but also, you could say a lot through gestures as well. The kids were all so excited to play all the time. They would spend hours playing on the tarp and on the trampoline. I would get exhausted and try to go inside for some water, but there would be another kid who wanted to play with the frisbee or wanted me to go on the slip and slide. The bible discussions they would have were mostly in Romanian, so I couldn't understand much, but you could tell that the kids were super engaged and they were excited to discuss the lesson or answer any questions. When we were memorizing verses, most of the kids would all memorize the verse the day before so they could say it today and get points for their team. They would also try to help me memorize the verse as well, which was pretty difficult because it was in Romanian. When it was time for the kids to leave for the last time, the kids were devastated. They were hugging me and wanted to take pictures with me. Even the kids I didn't talk to as much hugged me before they left. I was sad as well. I enjoyed the time I spent getting to know the kids, but I'm also glad because I feel like that they walked away with a better understanding of who the Lord is.
