If I were to choose 3 words to sum up my trip to Romania, they would be joy, enlightening, and fulfilling. Firstly, I chose the word joy because it was just so amazing to see the joy that the orphans we worked with had despite their situation. Many of these kids have no family to turn to, or their family is in a financial situation that doesn't allow for them to care for their children. Many of them have no idea what they will do once they turn 18 and leave the orphanage, and they don’t have the life skills to survive on their own. Despite all this, they are so joyful even while doing something as simple as kicking a soccer ball, doing a craft, or singing a song. This was amazing to see. Secondly I chose enlightening because this trip really gave me a new perspective and understanding of the situation that orphans are in in Romania. It gave me a firsthand understanding of their stories and their lives. I also chose fulfilling because it was so incredible to see our impact on the lives of the kids and to witness how our work could have so much meaning. Although it seems like simple work and we only saw each group of kids for 5 days, our representation of God’s love can make a lifelong impact on these kids.
I am also very grateful for the opportunity to connect with the Heart to Heart staff. They were so helpful throughout the trip and they do so much work to make everything possible. We were only working in Romania for 2 weeks, but they continue the same work all year while we’re gone.
Please pray that an lasting impact was made on the lives of the orphans because of our work and that everything we did points towards the love of Christ.
