Monterrey, Mexico- Spring 2023
On the outskirts of Monterrey is the informal community of Cerro de La Campana. Home to 5,000 residents, this neighborhood clings to the sides of one of Monterrey’s famous hills. As an unofficial community, La Campana has been under-resourced and oftentimes forgotten. Public infrastructure is unreliable and social supports are limited at best. School dropout rates, teen pregnancies, and gang involvement has soared throughout the years. And yet, just a few kilometers away is San Pedro Garza, the wealthiest community in all of Latin America. This disparity and the desire to see the neighborhood thrive drove a group of Christians to form FundeFam, a nonprofit that is making a difference in La Campana. Through academic support for kids, health and financial education for families, and positive role models and support for teens, FundeFam is seeing lives change for the better in La Campana.
This summer, Emmanuel Faith will work alongside FundeFam to run a week-long VBS for the children in the neighborhood. We are looking for people who have a heart to serve youth through singing, teaching Bible stories, making crafts, and serving meals. The ability to speak Spanish is not a requirement but would be very helpful.
